How I Work
Candace Lozynsky, Therapist
My Mission and Philosophy as a Therapist
I believe that we all know on some level what we need in order to feel better and improve our lives. We may not always be aware of it consciously, but part of us is always striving to move towards growth and health. It is this part of you that will propel you to achieve success in therapy.
My Role as Your Therapist
My job as a therapist is to create a safe, therapeutic space where you can feel comfortable sharing what is causing you distress.
I offer a collaborative approach, helping you remove blocks and barriers to your personal growth so that you can experience new feelings, thoughts, and behaviors. I do this with warmth, curiosity, authenticity and humor.
I support you in achieving the best outcome possible utilizing my therapeutic tool kit. I honor your experience and gently challenge you to move forward in your life. While I may make suggestions or encourage you to try out new ways of being, ultimately you make the decisions for what you want to achieve in your life
Your Role as a Therapy Client
Your job is to come to our counseling sessions prepared to actively engage in the process. You’ll need to be curious about your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. You’ll also need to be willing to try new ways of being in the context of a supportive relationship so that you can find greater fulfillment and happiness.
I Use Research-Based Therapy Methods That Are Known to Get Results
Individual Therapy
I primarily utilize emotionally focused therapy for individuals (EFIT) however I am trained in other therapy modalities such as cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), motivational therapy, solution focused therapy and narrative therapy.
You don’t need to understand any of these techniques for therapy to be effective. All you need to know is that they all work on a number of levels to help you heal and feel better about your life.
I have experience working with a wide range of problems that cause distress including relationship problems, anxiety and stress issues, depression, grief and loss, past hurts, etc. Whatever your problems are, I can help.
Couples therapy
The main technique I use when working with couples is called emotionally focused couples therapy (EFT). EFT is one of the most effective and research-backed couples therapy techniques in existence today.
I am a certified EFT therapist. I am certified by the International Center of Excellence in Emotion Focused Therapy (ICEEFT). This means I have completed advanced training in this method. I am currently one of only 2 certified therapists in the Calgary area who practice this highly effective technique.
